Electranoid Version 1.11s - Program Information
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT'S NEW
* Electranoid no longer requires the use of EMS memory and will now
use XMS memory. Therefore, you no longer need the EMM386 driver to
be loaded to run this program. Electranoid CAN still use EMM memory
if you prefer. To have the program use EMS memory instead of XMS,
use the /EMS switch (detailed below).
* Electranoid no longer automatically sets the volume on your sound
card (if you have one). It will use the current settings. Most
sound cards come with a utility that sets the volume and it is
usually set in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file upon starting up your system.
This is only for sound cards compatible with the Sound Blaster Pro.
* Please read in section II of this file about the /M2 switch if you
have problems with the mouse interface.
(Added in V1.02s)
* This version also includes the corrected timing from version 1.01
This version now works with all BIOS's and disk caching.
(Corrected in V1.01s)
OVERVIEW
This file contains information on trouble-shooting and system requirements.
If you experience any problems with the software, please refer to this file
first.
I. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Electranoid requires the following minimum configuration to function properly:
Required:
* MS-DOS version 4.0 or higher
* 80386, or higher
* 2 Meg RAM, or more
* VGA
* MS Compatible Mouse
* An XMS memory driver (i.e. HIMEM.SYS) and/or an EMS memory
driver (i.e. EMM386.EXE)
Recommended:
* Hard Drive
Optional:
* Sound Blaster or Compatible card
II. COMMAND LINE SWITCHES
There are three command line switches that may be utilized with Electranoid.
These are:
/EMS This forces the use of EMS memory instead of XMS memory.
/E- This disables the enemies during game play
/S- This turns off monitor synchronization on game play
/M2 This switch enables mouse doubling for non MS compatible
mouse drivers. If your mouse only goes half way across
the screen, then you should use this switch. Do not use
this switch if you do not need to do so.
You should only use the /E- and /S- switches if Electranoid does not appear
to be functioning smoothly during game play. Only those with slower model 386
systems should have any interest in these switches. It is advisable to
first try /E- switch. This will allow the game to function about twice as
fast. The /S- switch turns off all monitor synchronization. This will cause
the balls to become slightly "tuggy." However, on some laptop systems this
may be needed.
III. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS
Should you experience any problems with Electanoid, please contact us
immediately. You may refer to the ORDER.EXE file on information on contacting
Pixel Painters directly.
In case of any sudden unexplainable errors or lock-ups, it is advisable
to reboot your system immediately. This does not include program generated
"Critical Error" messages. The "Critical Error" messages are provided by
the program as a safeguard against lock-ups and problems. It is usually not
neccessary to reboot after one of these messages.
IV. COMMON CRITICAL ERROR MESSAGES
The most common critical error messages that you may encounter deal with
the Mouse and the XMS driver.
MOUSE - You need to make sure that you have preloaded your
MOUSE.COM driver program.
XMS/EMS - This software requires the use of either an EMS or XMS
memory driver. You may refer to your DOS manual on
information on installing your these drivers. Most systems
already use XMS memory and have the HIMEM.SYS driver loaded
in CONFIG.SYS. This program requires at least 768K of
available EMS/XMS memory. You may use the MEM command find
out how much memory is available on your system.
V. WINDOWS
In short, do not run this program from Windows or any other multi-tasking
environment.
